Character-defining Brows

While brow how-tos and good/bad brow reviews are always fun, there's no better way to display the importance  of brows than a character-defining brow.

In the upcoming Indiana Jones film, Cate Blanchett's slightly curved, overly-drawn brows help create the menacing, heartless stares that prove this Russian dominatrix to be quite a handful, even for Harrison Ford.  The unnatural shape and placement of these brows pair with the short, blunt bang to sear an image that commands control and fear from any on-looker.

So for all those out there who are under the impression that brows are no big deal, consider this... with the help of some serious brow make-overs, stylists have been able to take Cate Blanchett from a fairy princess in Lord of the Rings to an evil Soviet Agent in Indiana Jones.  The next time you get mistaken for an unkepmt undergrad or are unjustly accused of giving an evil stare, make sure it isn't your brows that are giving you a bum rap.

 

American Idol Brows: Sure they can sing, but how are their brows?

Tadpole brows. Carly has tweezed them too far apart and too thin. Carly clearly needs to grow in the hairs between her brows. Plus, a brow shade lighter and a thicker arch would send her on the way to being a brow beauty.

Bottom line: I hope she can sing better than she does brows.

Good-to-go. A few hairs off the top would go a long way with this blue-eyed beauty. His brows are such a strong feature next to his eyes that I would pretty much leave him alone. His raw look with dreads and all does not require anything more.

Bottom line: Let him be brow-care free.

Syesha rocks a beautiful face, but needs brow help. Her arch needs softening and she needs to let them grow in big time. A young fresh face needs thicker brows. NOTE: Thin brows add years to your looks.

Bottom line: Can you say brow boomerangs?

Hmmmm...It looks like he attempted to arch them himself, but they just come off looking sad. David could use a professional brow artist to balance them out and get him back on track.

Bottomline: Not so sexy brows.

Brooke you’re a cutie. But you’re brow challenged. Brooke’s brows are way too far apart and her arch is weak. A quick fix would be to use some brow powder to make her brows come alive.

Bottom line: Wanna-be Brow Babe

David Archuleta needs some serious help with his Arch-u-brow-shape.

Unless you lose those batwings that are sprouting from the tops of your brows, I don’t think you will be scoring any points with the ladies too soon.

So, pluck those off those wings and start calling yourself David Arch-u-want-me bad don’t you.

Bottom line: Future brow hottie in the making!

Miley, step away from the tweezers!

America's newest sweetheart, Miley Cyrus, has run into the same problem that many of our young clients face:  eyebrows that are too "done."  Whether they've gotten tweezer happy or just wanted to look a little older, many of our clients in the 12-15 year old bracket tend to over-shape their brows and then come to us to fix them.  With such cute and fresh young faces, a very natural, but clean shape is the answer.  There's no need to create the need to visit the salon every two weeks, when a natural shape is more complimentary.  Enjoy being young and low maintenance while you can, Miley, because that time won't last forever, especially in this town.

Jumping on the Donatella Band Wagon

As if she's not getting enough grief from everyone else, now BDB is going to give fashion genius Donatella Versace a little basic brow advice.  If they shock Scissor Sister's Jake Shears, we feel the need to give her some helpful hints.  When it comes to clothing design, she's written the book.  But, we are going to supplement it with a few pages on brows.

Brows thin with age for most women, that' a fact.  However, instead of just filling in the pencil-thin remnants, it's SO IMPORTANT to create a little width and arch with your pencil or powder.  Severly thin, curved brows add years to a woman's face.  With a little extra powder here and there, Donatella could really make her smokey eye make-up pop and have a more youthful look.

Brow Exchange

Sometimes brows that are slightly off balance can be a major distraction on an otherwise adorable face.  Here's the perfect example of this problem traveling in a pair.  Two gorgeous girls, Heroes co-stars Hayden and Dania, are in need of a temporary brow hair transplant.

Dilemma:  Like Jack Sprat and his wife, this is a pair of too thick and too lean.
The inner section of Hayden's brows too thick compared to the middle and tail sections of her brow, and they cover a large portion of her inner lid.  At the same time, Dania's inner brow section is almost the same width as her middle and tail sections.

Solution:  Brow hair swap.  These girls should take a trip to the brow salon and have a few rows of brow hair taken off of Hayden's inner section to give it a balanced shape while filling in a couple of rows on Dania's inner section until the hairs grow back. For Hayden - BDB Tweezers to the rescue.  For Dania - BDB Brow Boost for some restoration and BDB Brow Powder to fill the space in the meantime.

The BDB Beverly Hills staff hit the Vegas scene at the the Kim Vo Salon Grand Opening in the Mirage Hotel to celebrate the first ever Billion Dollar Brow Bar launch. The ever gorgeous Oprah Winfrey rocked the red carpet at the film premiere of "The Great Debaters" last night in Hollywood.

Paris becomes Billion Dollar Brows

BDB's Senior Artist, Julie Sahley and her new BFF, Paris Hilton talk brows while hanging out in the Hollywood Hills.

Julie prescribed Paris use Brow Boost to get her brows a bit thicker. Paris agreed and took Julie up on her offer by taking home a bottle of Boost and our Universal Brow Pencil. Paris is our premiere "Brow Bootcamp" cadet.

In a month or so we plan to see her sporting a thicker browline. It would really suit her well since she has perfect skin. She literally has no pores - the woman's skin is like butter.
